The Blog
This blog will be all about film reviews. I'm going to be watching a lot of movies, writing reviews, and hopefully not spoiling any movies you plan to watch.
Director: Ridley Scott The Martian is a movie adaptation of Andy Weir's novel of the same name. It is about a NASA mission to Mars that goes bad and results in astronaut Mark Watney being left on Mars, thought dead by his fellow astronauts and the world. He finds ways to keep himself alive and contact NASA and together both sides work on a way to rescue him and bring him back to Earth. The movie attempts to make the movie out as a comedy while also having heart stopping moments of drama. However the mood swings from comedy to suspense and sadness is to extreme and awkward, giving the movie a strange feel that it doesn't really know what it wants to be. The novel is very clear cut and obvious that it is comedic and the moments of seriousness still have some light hearted injections to even it out. The movie has an overriding theme of perseverance and pushing on in the face of adversity. However on the flip side, it also makes a big at the way our government is run and the people who are running it. When deciding how to rescue Mark after the supply rocket explodes, "Teddy" Sanders is in favor of the plan that will keep him safely in his current job, not what will most likely save Mark Watney. Ridley Scott and Andy Weir are showing how the current government isn't concerned with what is right but what will protect their jobs.
